I have one lone zebra hatchling in the nest right now (ten fertilized eggs in two others and five gouldians being fostered in yet another, but that's beside the point...oh, and my five juvies, two of which I think are fawn-cheeked, but, again, beside the point...)

I took the cutie out today to see how close he was to being banded and noticed that his whole body save his wing tips (where his flight feathers will be) is gray/black, but the wing tips are pink/fleshy colored. I also noticed he has abosolutely NO discernable mouth markings whatsoever.

What the heck? I've never seen one like this. What are your ideas? I know they can have no mouth markings, but the pink wing tips? Am I missing something??

Father produced what look like they will be a male and female normal with a CFW hen (as opposed to a cock!) and then four mutations that I am currently attempting to figure out, one of which I think may be a fawn-cheek, if this helps any. I do not know who the mother actually is of this little one. The hens don't care whose eggs are whose and often sit on one another's eggs.

Uh, he just sounds like pied to me. Pied chicks sometimes have no mouth markings (is the beak dark og pink?) and their skin and later feathers are different colour. The normal grey and pink and later grey and white colour. At least I don't know of any other mutation that would give pink wings.

Example of my own pied chick:

Yep. His wings look just like that. His beak is black and he's nowhere near old enough for it to have begun to change yet. Well, that's cool. I've never had a pied Zebra among by birds before!
