I have society eggs hatching...all on different dates. Fou ras of yesterday. I just now found a tiny dead newborn on the cage floor. Maybe it was already dead? Or they don't want anymore? Can size difference matter?

It could either be because of the size difference, or as many of us have noticed the parents sometimes know when the baby is unhealthy or weak and will remove it rather than wasting their time and energy on it :(
Congrats on the babies. =D>

Janine has said it all and I can only agree. Best wishes for the rest of the chicks - they should be fine. =D>

Well, 5 out of 7 hatched and are alive. Last chick was dead in the egg. Probably for the best.

Yes 5 chicks is a good sized clutch. How far apart were they all hatched?

Its hard to say...these are first time females and started incubating right away, at the most a day apart....ahh, young ones...they will learn!

I have the same "problem" with my zebras and gouldians.
They will sit from the first egg. That would spread the chicks hatching too far apart, where the last chick is at risk.
To prevent that, I have to remove the eggs as they are laid and swap in a fake egg, then put them all back when the 4th or 5th egg is laid.
