If I have a lone male I should get him a mate right. I believe remember seeing that they should not be along.

If you want babies, you can get him a mate. If you don't want babies, another male will be great company for him

I haven't had any problems, unless I introduce a female.

M+M and F+F pairing is no different than M+F pairing.
I have several same sex pairings and they usually work out fine.
Sometimes a particular pairing (even M+F) just will not get along, and there is no way to tell if this will happen or not.

One method that I used to help get a pair to get along is, to divide the cage with a wire mesh divider, so they can see the other bird but not get to the other bird. Leave them like that for a week or so, and then see if they start to buddy up.

I had a hen that would aggressively chase and even attack any male I put in her cage. I divided her cage and put a male on the other side of the divider, where she could not get to him. Initially, she tried to attack him thru the divider. I left them like that for about a week. That time seems to take the edge off her aggressiveness and after a week she then buddied up to the male.

The trick in all this is to only have TWO birds in the cage.
Add a 3rd and very likely that one of the 3 will be chased and picked on.

Thanks everyone. I went and bought a female for him. They seem to be getting along nicely. At first he was pecking at her a bit then within 30 minutes they were both in the nest. Good to know about the same sex pairings.Yea I noticed that 3rd bird is not good when I had 3 sibs together..I had to eventually remove one.

Hmm I have a feeling the female the lady gave me might be a male. It looks pretty young and it just starting to get the little stripes zebras have on the upper chest. Do any females have these stripes? At any rate they are getting along well and glad to hear that males can get along because I might have 2.

I can't for the likes of me find a picture of her right away, but I do have a fawn hen, whom we thought was a male until she laid eggs. She fledged with little bars on her chest and still has them. I would love to take a picture of her now, but she just happens to be sitting on a clutch of eggs. =D>
